Any idea what this is? I checked through a list of 280 photos of caterpillars with hairs/spines... and I couldn't see this one.

It's a Lackey Caterpillar Latin name Malacosoma Neustria. Smile The caterpillar is far more colourful than the actual moth. Smile

Well done Rolf - I gave up after looking at so many pictures, although I didn't think taht it would be so hard to pick him out - I obviously wasn't on the right site! I think t hat they are on my Plum trees. I've seen lots of those moths but never seen the caterpillar before.

This is a good site for searching wildlife photos http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/forums/ I just searched for caterpillar and it was on about the third page, they also have pictures of the moth there as well. Smile
